There is a place in the eastern hills of Friuli where the heart meets the land and where the values of a family find their most sincere expression in producing great wines.
IL RONCAL is a small estate of 20 hectares, terraced on the Montebello Hill, in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, only 3 km away from the historical center of Cividale del Friuli (UNESCO site). Here Martina Moreale carries on the project of her husband Roberto, founder of the winery. Day after day, the diligent care of this land offers its best fruits, harvested to create high-quality wines. Simply the excellence.
The estate of IL RONCAL is surrounded by an impressing landscape and by numerous vineyards, grown in a homogenous soil composition and with ideal climatic conditions. It is possible to find different varieties of wine, each presenting its own peculiarities and unique characteristics. Each distinctive feature results from the dedicated passion of our wine growers and from their technical expertise, which throughout the years has lead to perfection.
In Friulian (local language), the name “Roncal” means terraced estate on a hill; as a matter of fact, the “ronchi” are the hillsides dominating this striking landscape. The slopes of our vineyards, surrounding the Montebello Hill, are favored by an excellent sun exposure; Additionally, the marl-sandstone soil is ideal for the grape cultivation. IL RONCAL harvest is intentionally postponed in order for the grapes to reach their full ripeness. The wine production continues then within the cellar, where traditional wine methods are followed. Tradition and modernity continue to coexist; for this reason, the sweet-smelling oak barrels, where the wines mature and the fragrances become full-blown, stand near the shiny cold steel basins.
THE WINE RESORT
Next to the wine cellar, there is a welcoming resort, which has recently been renovated. For IL RONCAL guests, the Wine Resort provides an attractive possibility to stay overnight and to relax while enjoying the beautiful landscape of the region with a glass of wine.
The Wine Resort has been designed following a combination of traditional Friulian and modern style. IL RONCAL offers its guests moments of relaxation and enjoyment. Away from the hectic rush of the big cities, IL RONCAL is a place where visitors can enjoy nature’s beauty, the elegant facilities of the property, high-quality wines, a breathtaking view from the pool, as well as the impressive garden with its olive trees and cypresses. The Wine Resort’s rooms are equipped with all the amenities one can think of and are named after the regional grape varieties: Ribolla Gialla, Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo Friulano, Picolit, Schioppettino, Pignolo, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Civon and Ploe di Stelis.
The unique landscape surrounding the property is ideal for hiking, cycling or for simply relaxing while drinking a good glass of Il Roncal wine.
LOCATION AND TERRITORY
IL RONCAL property is close to the historical center of Cividale del Friuli. The town is one of the most important Longobardic sites and is found at the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Udine, with its beautiful castle and historic squares, is only 25 km away from the estate. The cities of Gorizia, San Daniele del Friuli and Palmanova are additionally reachable in less than one hour.
