Zannini – Jesi (AN), Marche
Grandfather's vines, a new winery. Forty years ago, Michele Zannini's grandfather planted the first vines in the hills around Jesi. In 2022 Michele decided to start again from there: he took over the family's five hectares, restored the historic vineyards to give them new life and began making wine himself. What had been a family farming tradition became a young winemaking project that looks ahead.
A new vineyard for bubbles. Alongside the historic vines, Michele planted a vineyard designed specifically for sparkling wine production. This idea gave rise to the Sottopressione line: spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and re-fermentation in the bottle using the ancestral method, where pressure builds up naturally and becomes bubbles.
In the heart of the Jesi hills. This is Verdicchio country, where the grape finds its highest expression. The soil is the marl typical of these hills, a blue-grey mix of clay and limestone that gives the wines freshness, minerality and savouriness. Alongside Verdicchio, Michele also grows and vinifies Chardonnay, Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Lacrima.
Hands-on at every step. Michele follows every stage himself: the vineyard throughout the year, the harvest, strictly by hand, the winemaking and the bottling. At his side are his partner and his father, who share the work and daily life with him.
The labels. 4 Lupi (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico, dedicated to the wolves that guard the vines), Marna (100% Lacrima, named after the soil of the hills), Sottopressione and Sottopressione Rosé (sparkling wines from Verdicchio and Chardonnay and from Montepulciano).
A family's story and the energy of a new idea, in a young winery in the hills of Jesi.
