Tenuta Scrafana
At the Fattoria di Scrafana, in the hills of Montevarchi, in a unique landscape, the winemaking tradition has always existed and the agricultural vocation of the area is evidenced by history.
The Scrafana Estate has been documented since ancient times, and today, 20 of its 50 hectares of land are cultivated with vineyards. There are also approximately 300 olive trees and a small, precious orchard of heirloom varieties.
Good wine is a precious and delicate gift of nature.
We are farmers, first and foremost, and for this reason we devote ourselves with infinite care to every stage of winemaking, arriving at the culmination of our work, the harvest, with great emotion. All our grapes are hand-picked. Once they arrive at the cellar, they are vinified in stainless steel and cement vats at a controlled temperature. Maturation takes place in stainless steel, cement, amphorae, and small and large oak barrels. Finally, bottle aging in our temperature- and humidity-controlled cellar guarantees the best expression of our wines.
The grape varieties are predominantly native Tuscan: Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo, Trebbiano Toscano, and Malvasia. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir are also grown.
The vineyards were designed to complement the terroir and respect the environment, including the landscape, using low-impact techniques and materials that respect the existing structures. The agronomic techniques adopted are aimed at respecting biodiversity and achieving a high-quality final product, suitable for fine wines. Low yields per vine, grassing, respect for the soil, and the use of organic products are the cornerstones of the cultivation.
