The Riserva originates from a single vineyard: Vigna la Casina, planted in 1983, the oldest on the estate. 100% Sangiovese trained with a spurred cordon system, yielding a contained 40 q.li/ha, from vines that delve deep roots into a soil of calcareous marl mixed with clay at 250 meters. Harvesting is manual, with destemming and 50% whole berries. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts occurs in concrete tanks with very gentle pump-overs, followed by a 40-45 day maceration on the skins — extraordinarily long, for a slow and precise extraction. Aging is complex: first in concrete and 500-liter French oak tonneaux for 12-18 months, then another 3 years in concrete. A wine that demands time, and returns it all in the glass.
In the glass, it presents a deep ruby red color, with garnet reflections. The bouquet is complex and layered: ripe red fruits, sweet spices, leather, tobacco, and a balsamic note that emerges with aeration. On the palate, it is full-bodied, enveloping, and of great structure, with silky tannins and a freshness that elegantly supports everything. The finish is long and persistent, with a mineral savoriness that invites another sip.
Only 3,500 bottles produced. A Riserva not to be missed.
