Scrinzi

Saltarius comes from the tiny hamlet of Saltaria, in the heart of the hills around Rovereto. At 445 metres above sea level, this land of stony loam soils, kissed by the sun and caressed by the Ora wind from Lake Garda, yields grapes for a Trento DOC Metodo Classico of great elegance.

Saltarius is a finely balanced blend of Chardonnay (60%) and Pinot Nero (40%). The grapes are carefully grown on linked single Trentino pergolas and west-facing terraces, with a maximum yield of 90–100 quintals per hectare. After vinification the wine rests on the lees for more than 60 months before disgorgement, developing complexity and refinement.

But Saltarius is much more than a wine: it is the story of a family that has cherished and handed down a passion for winegrowing for generations. From great-grandfather Achille to his son Franco, and today to grandson Andrea, a young oenologist who, with his team, pursues a dream built on tradition and innovation. The first harvest, in 2019, made with grandfather Franco before his passing, marked the start of a path that has now become a mission: to preserve an increasingly rare craft and to showcase a unique territory.

The name Saltarius has its roots in the Latin saltuarius, from saltus, meaning "wood", "pasture" or "estate". In past centuries the saltaro was the guardian of the cultivated fields, the one who ensured their protection. Today that bond with the land is renewed in every bottle of Saltarius, which holds the history, work and dedication of those who deeply love this place.
