On Etna, Nerello Mascalese gives reds closer to Nebbiolo than to Sicily: pale colour, fine tannin, high acidity.
100% Nerello Mascalese. Thirty days of skin maceration, twelve days' fermentation in steel, malolactic completed, then 12-18 months in oak casks and a year in bottle. Etna Rosso DOC, 2017 vintage, 14% vol.
Ruby red turning garnet. The nose gives fruity blackberry and blackcurrant, with spices such as black pepper and vanilla. On the palate the mineral note expresses its origin in volcanic earth: freshness and the tannin typical of Etna reds stand out, then give way to the softness and warmth of its fourteen degrees.
Anyone who loves Nebbiolo will find the same structure here, with more sun.
