Cascina Costanato

The Cascina Costanato winery cultivates approximately one hectare of hilly land in Castelnuovo Calcea, in the province of Asti, in the heart of the Barbera d'Asti DOCG zone. It is almost entirely planted with vines dating back over 30 years. In 2012, the vineyard was replanted with Barbera, with a partial addition of Merlot and Chardonnay to expand its winemaking portfolio. The vineyard, currently at its full potential, was designed and built with modern materials and construction methods, while maintaining the rural traditions of the past.

Even the cultivation processes, today as then, are carried out in full respect of agricultural traditions. Pruning, which precedes the winter dormancy, tying in the spring, spraying, thinning, and finally, the manual harvest of the grapes, which are placed in small crates, are all done entirely by hand.

From these grapes are born the “Anteprima”, Barbera d'Asti with a controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, a signature product for our company, but also a symbolic wine of the Piedmontese and Asti winemaking tradition; the “Sybélia”, Barbera d'Asti superiore, aged in 225-liter oak barriques, produced only in particularly favorable years; and the “Preie” Monferrato Rosso made with Barbera and Merlot grapes.

Finally, as part of the company's development project, the production of pure Merlot wine, a blend of Merlot and Barbera, and the production of the “Lo Scricciolo” Monferrato Bianco made from Chardonnay grapes are planned for the near future.
