Tenuta Scrafana

At the Fattoria di Scrafana, on the hills of Montevarchi, in a truly unique landscape, winegrowing has always existed, and the area's farming vocation is borne out by history.

Tenuta Scrafana is in fact recorded since antiquity; today, of its 50 hectares of land, 20 are planted to vines. There are also around 300 olive trees and a small, precious orchard of heritage varieties.

Good wine is a precious and delicate gift of nature.

At Scrafana they see themselves first and foremost as farmers, and take great care over every stage of winemaking, up to the high point of the year, the harvest, lived with great emotion. All the grapes are picked by hand. Once in the cellar, they are vinified in steel and concrete at controlled temperature. Maturation takes place in steel, concrete, amphora and oak casks of different sizes. Finally, bottle ageing in the estate's own temperature- and humidity-controlled cellar ensures the wines show at their best.

The grapes are mainly native Tuscan varieties: Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo, Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia, alongside Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Nero.

The vineyards were designed to follow the terroir and respect the environment, including the landscape, using low-impact techniques and materials and preserving existing contours. The farming methods aim to protect biodiversity and to produce fruit worthy of fine wines. Low yields per vine, cover crops, respect for the soil and the use of organic products are the cornerstones of the estate's viticulture.
