The taste of innovation – Laimburg Province Winery
Laimburg, a progressive enterprise for South Tyrolean winemaking, produces its own high- quality wines that support its core competency of viticultural and enological research. All of Laimburg’s grapes come from its own vineyards, which are distributed on about 15 hectares in various areas that feature different soils and altitudes ranging from 200 and 750 meters.
The 90,000 bottles of quality wines produced by Laimburg – which have been distinguished numerous times in professional tastings – follow two lines of production. The Estate Wines are traditional, single-varietal vintage wines, aged either in stainless steel or in large oak barrels. The wines of the Manor Selection, on the other hand, have a more individual character; they are, for the most part, aged in small oak barrels (barriques) and/or made from a strict selection of grapes, with names taken from Ladin legends of the Dolomites. Laimburg is a member of the Tirolensis Ars Vini Association of Quality Wineries of South Tyrol; the symbol of the tatzelwurm, a mythical dragon-like creature, guarantees the exceptional quality of its member’s wines.
Laimburg Province Winery created additional space for the storage of its barrels and wine bottles at the end of the 1980s by expanding into the red porphyry rocks of the adjacent Mitterberg Mountain. In addition to the barrel and bottle aging cellars, which provide for ideal conditions as the result of their naturally constant room temperature, the Felsenkeller (rock cellar) was created. The 300-sqm vaulted hall, an ideal setting for exchange among wine experts, media representatives and restaurateurs, serves primarily for presentation purposes and as a venue for South Tyrolean government events.
